These last photos is where the river peaked on Monday The water is gradually busy coming down after the flood which is a good thing in Flood Language as that means that the water does not take a lot of the topsoil with it. For those of you who know Adam, (husband and owner) he is already busy planning a newer better campsite. However, the kids think it is the best fun ever to able to swim in the parking lot.
Now that the worst is over and we have time to reflect and look back, here are the things that amazed us:
The people:
Our guides, our ex guides, our overland friends, our families, our friends, our webdzine guy, and even strangers, everybody offered help, support, prayers and lots of love. To give you just one example while we were still on holiday and the first flood warnings came through, Arno and Zelda Fourie offered us their shed to store all our stuff in.....and this is Mango season they need that shed. This is not the most appropriate time to have your shed occupied by other people’s stuff. But this is the type of support we are getting from our community and our people.
Stuff.
So we had time to choose what we want to save and I threw away a lot of stuff and Adam moved with all 3 of his scrap yards. And although our new guides sort of hoped that the old photographs would get destroyed (so that they could feature on the board) nothing of sentimental value got destroyed during this flood. Every single number plate is still intact as well as my green coach that I love and Adam absolutely hates.
The Orange River.
When I showed Kenneth (our son) the water, he said "Mom it is a bit pretty but it is a lot destructive" and this sort of sums up this flood, the mighty Orange came down in all its might and yes it was very destructive but is beautiful too. We chose to live next to the river and for years it has fed us, (without asking anything in return) and now that it has to clean it’s inside we just have to stand back in wonderment until it subsides and work with the river for a new clean future.
Rivergreetings

The water seems to be going down now. We would just like to thank everybody for their love and support - It kept us a float. We are struggling to access the internet, so if we do not answer your e-mails, please be patient with us. |

Hi All,
The river has now risen to the second step before the bar area. This is the same level as last year's flood, with the peak only arriving anytime between Sunday and Tuesday.
We are currently (today) in the process of final evacuation having to move everything out of the campsite by this evening. This includes our kitchen, my home, the bar and all workshop equipment.
Even though this is a "disaster" in many people’s eyes, our spirits are high and we see this as a fresh beginning for Bushwhacked when the water does eventually recede. Everyone is asking how long it will take to recede - This is difficult question to answer - watch this space :)
Our most important assets (all our family and staff) are safe. Our children are in Springbok.
I will try to write something everyday and post more pictures.
